Another so-so race for me, but I wasnt discouraged as at least I tried. It was a crowded July 4 race at Murray. Cant say I liked the course - running out and back on State Street, isnt very enjoyable - its too wide of street, one of the main ones in Salt Lake and almost no shade. On top of that it was a red flag air day with all the valley pollution. Might as well run on Interstate 15. Yes Yes Yes - I know it was my choice to run, seems like they could have a more desirable route, but maybe that would be difficult because of all the runners and the planned parade to follow. I just dont like big city streets and dont do well in heat. Still Im glad I ran. I think I had a pretty steady pace. I think I was 271st of 812 runners which is still good and 15th of 27 runners in 50-54 year age group. My son Alex did his best ever as a 10 year old easily winning his age group at 21:23.

Need to look at getting another pair of shoes. The lightweight shoes I have dont seem to give me enough support and I feel them easily pounding the pavement

Yes it was hot, tough course to get a PR. Your son must be in great shape to get a PR on this course. I do like the prizes, the park and all the hoopla for the runners. It would be nice if they could run the course a different route.

good luck on your training.

This course is like Heart of Holladay in terms of being slow. So 26:08 was not quite as good as your 25:55 in Heart of Holladay, but close. Probably, if you adjust for the heat, it was actually a PR effort. If things go well, you'll get a PR in Draper Days.
